Panoramic Road Oberaar

This link road runs between the Grimsel Pass and the source of the Aare.

The Panoramstrasse Oberaar is a private road built by Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG in 1949 to support the construction of the Oberaar dam. The road is open to the public from late June to the end of October.

Alternatively, the Oberaarbahn cable car can be used to

access the Oberaar region from the Hotel Grimsel Hospiz and enjoy unique perspectives of the Grimselwelt.

CURRENT ROAD CONDITIONS

avalanche bulletin. The road is only open to the public when the line is shown in solid black.

ROAD OPENING TIMES

The road is passable in one direction only.

Grimsel Pass to Restaurant and Berghaus Oberaar
Heading up the mountain, the road opens for 10 minutes at the top of each hour, i.e. until 10 minutes past the hour.

Restaurant and Berghaus Oberaar to Grimsel Pass
Heading downhill, the road opens for 10 minutes on the half hour, i.e. from 30 to 40 minutes past the hour.

Night closure
The road is closed between midnight and 06.00am.

CAR PARKS AND PARKING CHARGES

No motor vehicles are permitted to park on the Panoramastrasse. Parking spaces are available at the Oberaarsee and the Berghaus Oberaar

(charges apply). Book your parking ticket from our online shop or from vending machines on the Grimsel Pass.

CAMPING

Part of the Grimsel Pass and Oberaar region lies in a

nature reserve. For this reason, camping is prohibited in this area.

MAXIMUM VEHICLE SIZE

The Panoramstrasse Oberaar is suitable for vehicles up to a maximum of 3.4 metres in height and 10 metres in length.

Negotiating the road in a vehicle of this size requires experience with narrow mountain roads.
