Innertkirchen: Experience Wasserkraft

Tour of the Innertkirchen hydroelectric power plants

An exciting insight into the impressive production of electricity from hydropower.

Electricity generation is most impressive at the foot of the Grimselwelt. Here, in the underground power plants Innertkirchen 1 and 1A , the immense volumes of water from the Grimsel are used to generate electricity. These state-of-the-art power plants, with their advanced control systems, tirelessly and precisely regulate the Swiss power grid. This makes them among the most important power plants in Switzerland and offers fascinating insights into hydroelectric power generation. The tour can be perfectly combined with a picnic along the Aare River and a visit to the Aare Gorge ( April through October).
