Handeck & Gelmer area
The Handeck and Gelmer region is a true paradise for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. Picturesque landscapes, crystal-clear lakes and imposing peaks await visitors here between Innertkirchen and the Grimsel Pass.
The Gelmerbahn funicular railway, one of the steepest funicular railways in Europe, takes you to the breathtaking world of the Gelmersee, a deep blue mountain lake surrounded by majestic mountains. From here you can go on numerous hikes and mountain tours and experience the beauty of nature up close.
The area around the Handeck also offers a wealth of leisure activities. Here you can enjoy the beautiful landscape on leisurely walks or try the good cuisine in the restaurant of our Hotel and Nature Resort Handeck.
Particularly impressive is the Handeck Falls, a thundering waterfall spectacle that plunges over 50 meters into the depths and can be observed from a suspension bridge.
The Sidelhornbahn takes you from the Grimsel Hospiz up to the Grimsel Pass. Once at the top, the hike starts with an ascent to the Cabin Hüsegghütte, which can be reached in around half an hour. From there, a much flatter path leads to Lake Trübtensee, which offers a wonderful backdrop for a break or picnic.
Continue through the varied natural landscape to Bäregg, which offers a breathtaking view over the entire Oberaar region. After a short descent, you reach the cozy Berghaus Oberaar and the imposing dam wall.
On the return journey on the Oberaarbahn, discover the world of the Oberaar and Unteraar from a bird’s eye view before gliding high above Grimselsee back to the Hotel Grimsel Hospiz. The hike can be extended via the Sidelhorn.
