Sbrinz Route Handeck – Grimsel Hospiz

Information About Blasting Operations

As part of the construction work for the Grimsel 4 pumped-storage power plant, underground blasting takes place several times a day. Each blast lasts several seconds. Blasting operations are carried out primarily from Monday through Friday, with occasional blasting on weekends. In the area along Räterichsbodensee, the blasts may be heard as a dull rumbling and may cause slight vibrations. There are no additional risks for hikers and climbers.

Please be aware, however, of the usual dangers in high mountains, such as falling rocks, rockfalls, and
sudden changes in weather, and act responsibly.

The legendary Sbrinz Route, named after the Central Swiss Hartkläse, leads from Lake Lucerne to Italy. The section between Handeck and Grimsel Hospiz is a real highlight of this old mule track: The trail leads over spectacular stone bridges and rocky paths from the muleteer era along gorges, torrents, rock slabs and the shores of Lake Rätrichsbodensee up to the first inn in Switzerland mentioned in a document – the Grimsel Hospiz.
