With the Oberaarbahn to the Source of the Aare

Enjoy an “Alpine lowland flight” on this gondola ride from the Alpinhotel Grimsel Hospiz over the Grimselsee to the Oberaarsee, at the end of which the Aare springs from the glacier. During the 30-minute journey in two sections, you will experience the breathtaking granite and lake landscape from a completely new perspective.

Tickets

Tickets can be purchased online, at the Grimseltor Tourist Center in Innertkirchen, at the reception of the Grimsel Hospiz Alpine Hotel and at the ticket machines in the Grimsel Hospiz Visitor Center and at the Oberaarbahn mountain station.
Accepted means of payment at the ticket machines: EC and credit cards, REKA and postcard.

A subsequent change, exchange or refund of the purchase price is not possible.

Location and arrival

The valley station is located at the Hotel Grimsel Hospiz.

The Mountain railways can be reached by car and post bus.

Panoramastrasse Oberaar

The Oberaar can also be reached via the six-kilometre panoramic road from the Grimsel Pass. The road is only passable in one direction at a time.

Equipment

We recommend sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing. Temperatures and weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains.

Prerequisites

The mountain trails require surefootedness and a head for heights.

The Oberaarbahn is not suitable for wheelchairs or baby carriages. It is self-propelled and is operated by the guests themselves. There are no facilities for storing luggage.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed on the Oberaarbahn and travel free of charge.

Note

No vehicles, aircraft or water sports equipment are transported on the Oberaarbahn.
