Transportation from winter 2025/2026
Operation of the Gersteneggbahn was discontinued at the end of April 2025.
In the 2025/2026 winter season, the only option is to take one of the cab companies listed below from Meiringen, Innertkirchen or Guttannen via the Handeck-Gersteneggg access tunnel to Gerstenegg.

Snow tour bus from Guttannen
The snow touring bus takes tourers comfortably to the touring area. From Thursday to Monday, it runs at set times between Guttannen, Handeck and the Gesteneggbahn mountain station.
The winter feeder to the Grimsel region
In winter, the Gersteneggbahn takes you from Handeck directly to the ski touring area at set times.
Make sure you check our rail bulletin before your arrival to find out whether the Mountain railways are running. Due to the rapidly changing weather conditions in the mountains, services may be suspended at short notice.

When the pass road is open up to the Kunzentännlein parking lot, the Mountain railways remain closed. Please refer to the current “Avalanche and road bulletin”.

Important: Courses without reservations until 4.00 pm the day before are canceled.

Location and arrival
The valley station of the Gersteneggbahn is located at the Handeck 1 Power plant.
From winter 2024/25, Handeck will no longer be accessible by private car during works traffic* (*access only for employees and external parties on behalf of the KWO). Cab companies instructed by us may use the road during works traffic. Information on this can be found in the KWO road and avalanche bulletin.
A limited number of public parking spaces are available for tourers in Guttannen at the village exit.
Cab companies take tourers from Meiringen, Innertkirchen or Guttannen to the Gersteneggbahn valley station.
