Historic Alpine Hotel
The past and the present meet at the Hotel Grimsel Hospiz. Way back in 1142, the first certified guest house in Switzerland stood in this area. In 1932, the first electrically heated hotel in Europed caused quite a sensation. Environmental considerations had to be taken into account when the hotel was completely renovated between 2008 and 2010 and the whole hotel is now heated by using hydroelectric waste-heat. As a historic 4-star alpine hotel in the heart of the KWO catchment area, the Hotel Hospiz reigns majestically above the Grimsel storage lake.
The large-scale technical installations are also of interest to many Grimselwelt visitors and guided tours of the power plants, tunnels and the famous crystal cavern are available. The hotel alone is worth the little detour across the dam to experience its delicious, regional cuisine - to say nothing of the 300 different types of wine stored in the wine cellar. All this makes the Grimsel Hospiz a popular destination for celebrations or productive seminars. In winter the historic house, sunk deep in metres of snow, thrones above an untouched landscape. A silent winter oasis.
